The „Zur Schmiede“ vacation home is located in Remptendorf in the Gleima district and has been converted from an old village smithy. The house was built around 1900 and was used as a blacksmith's shop until the 1960s. After that, until the 1970s, the lower rooms were the offices of a small company. Step by step, the owner then converted the house into a vacation home. The open forge fire and the anvil were once located where the kitchen is now. This is where the raw iron was forged into what it was to become. The bedroom with the double bed was the actual area for shoeing. The finished horseshoes were burned onto the hoof and thus precisely adjusted. After the horseshoe had cooled down, the farrier nailed the shoe onto the hoof using special nails.
