From your apartment you have a view of the world-famous Rennsteig, the high-altitude hiking trail on the ridge of the Thuringian Forest. The old town is located directly on the 868 m high Kieferle, one of the highest mountains in the Thuringian Slate Mountains. The special charm of the small town lies in the small houses covered in typical blue-black slate, which nestle against the mountain like a castle rampart.
