Fladungen

The beautiful town of Fladungen is located in the middle of the border triangle of Hesse, Thuringia and Bavaria. Nestled in the unique landscape of the Rhön biosphere reserve, Fladungen is the northernmost town in Bavaria. Picturesque half-timbered houses with richly carved corner beams characterize the historic townscape. The well-preserved town wall with its 5 defensive towers and narrow alleyways still show the impressive position of the town in the Middle Ages. The town of Fladungen was granted its town charter in 1335. On a historical tour of the town, you can learn all about the historical background, legends and myths of the town. With its 7 districts, Fladungen has been awarded the status of a state-recognized health resort. The fresh air in particular invites you to take a deep breath. The many mills that run through the entire town are striking. This allows you to admire the litter from all sides. Because of this, Fladungen also has a treading bed for Kneipp baths. Fladungen has a lot to offer as a vacation resort and excursion destination. Whether hiking, cycling or museum visits, everything is possible. In the middle of Fladungen you will find the famous Franconian Open-Air Museum, which will take you on a journey back in time. Rural farmsteads and gardens on the museum grounds allow you to immerse yourself in an untouched world. In an entertaining way, visitors are informed about how people from the North Lower Franconian regions used to live and work. Highlights include the regular bread baking days, when traditional bread is baked in the historic buildings. You can also find other delicacies in the Brotzeitstübchen or in Martina Seufert's farm store. Be sure to try the delicious waffles or the fresh bread in combination with local cheese and sausage. You can also take the "Rhön Zügle" train at the museum., the open-air museum's historic steam train through the Streutal valley.

The Rhön Museum also opens its doors to visitors. The museum impresses with its important collection of Rhön folk art.

Fladungen and its districts continue to be characterized by the impressive and elaborately built churches and chapels, which go back a long way in history.

Fladungen has also been one of Bavaria's places of indulgence since 2018. With its delicacies such as the fresh farmhouse bread from the Weihersmühle, which you can also buy in the Fladungen farm store, or the sausage and cheese specialties, you will get your money's worth. You can also enjoy the traditional cuisine of the Rhön in our many restaurants. Try the fresh local trout with buttered potatoes from the region or the fresh apple porridge from our own apple orchards. If you get hungry along the way, you can also pick up all kinds of specialties from the self-service vending machines, for example homemade ice cream from an ice cream factory. You should take a break during a bike tour or hike and have a small picnic. Good food and a sweeping view of the Rhön can make your heart beat faster.

Fladungen is part of the Rhön Star Park thanks to its excellent location and sustainable lighting. In Fladungen, you can observe vast numbers of stars and immerse yourself in them. Special benches are available for this purpose. It feels as if the universe is all around you. Shooting stars are not long in coming either. If you want to find out more, you can take part in a guided tour.

Thanks to the good connections to Fulda and Meiningen, you can combine your stay in Fladungen with a visit to the theater, for example.

Fladungen is an all-round experience!
