Flarchheim

The national park community Flarchheim is a village with many two-storey half-timbered houses with gatehouses. It is located between the Dingelsbach and Eichbach rivers right next to the UNESCO Hainich National Park. The first documentary mention dates back to 980. Exactly one hundred years later, the battle between Henry IV and his opponent King Rudolf of Swabia took place in Flarchheim.

The jewel of the village is the riding and sports ground with indoor riding arena, where riding tournaments are held every two years. The village has a youth club, a men's choir and a restaurant with a hall where May, local and Whitsun festivals and flag-waving events are held every year. St. Andrew's Church, built in the 15th century, stands on a hill in the middle of the village. The bells removed during the war were replaced by three new bells with inscriptions in October 1954. The parsley organ from the 19th century was restored and played again on Reformation Day 2006.

The historic bakery is also the pride of the village. The local heritage association invites you to experience old crafts up close. Demonstrations, technical explanations and insights into the history of the village are offered by dedicated Flarchheim residents. A visit to the bakery can be combined with interesting offers from the neighboring communities. The traditional Hainich house or the Niederdorla sacrificial bog are very close to Flarchheim.

The proximity to the UNESCO Hainich National Park also makes Flarchheim a suitable starting point for hikes and cycle tours. You can easily reach the Hünenteich pond and the wildcat children's forest with its environmental education station via the "Rüspelsweg" parking lot.
