The field was used as an agricultural airfield in the pre-reunification period. This can still be seen from the two concrete loading points in the western and eastern parts of the runway. Seen from the air, these are striking landmarks as they look like a "T".
A wide variety of air sports are practiced on the airfield. In addition to hang gliding in the beginning and paragliding shortly afterwards, motorized microlight flying was a long time coming. However, microlight flying has developed more strongly in recent years due to the speed of entry.

The model airplanes are relatively independent. They are located in the southern part of the site and use their own model launch runway.
Unfortunately, the Sprossen special landing field is not approved for gliding!
