Probably the most important square in the city and the one most frequently visited by tourists is Weimar's Frauenplan. The name goes back to an old Marienkapelle chapel located in front of the Frauentor gate. Today, several sights can be visited from here. The most prominent representative and world-famous highlight is, of course, Goethe's residence with the National Museum. Directly opposite are the Goethe Fountain and Walter Sach's "Sunken Giant". The Frauenplan is surrounded by countless gastronomic options. A wine festival is always held here on Goethe's birthday in August.
