Mechanika da Vinci Leutenthal open-air museum
Mechanika da Vinci Leutenthal open-air museum
Open-air museum and technology you can „touch“ north of the Weimar and Apolda triangle
The open-air museum is located directly on the Laura cycle path and is a gem for technology enthusiasts. It is combined with the Leonardo da Vinci Park, which exhibits mechanical machines for motion conversion based on drawings and concepts by the artist. True-to-original models of historic steam locomobiles on a scale of 1:10 can be admired here.
Try it out instead of just looking at it
Visitors with a talent for handicrafts can make pottery, carve, turn, drill or grind in various mechanically powered craftsmen's huts.
Families with children or school classes in particular are among the most enthusiastic visitors to the open-air museum, as there is the opportunity to try out mechanical devices. Children learn the laws of physics here almost through play.
Leutenthal can be reached from Weimar by bike via the Laura cycle path or by bus. Cyclists can recover from their tour at the integrated rest area. Visitors with cars can park directly at the museum garden. Barbecues can be held here by prior arrangement.
