People certainly lived in the quiet side valley of the Wannig long before the turn of the millennium. But it was not until the 9th century that this settlement island was named: On 17.11.842, Erluuin gives the Fulda monastery goods in the village, which is called Fritirihot and lies in the "Wenkheimer Mark im Gau Grabfeld". It remains unclear whether the name of the area, which was already precisely defined at the time, refers to a Fridurih or Friderih, who arranged donations in Münnerstadt in the 9th century, or whether it refers to a place in the "peaceful, protective Ried". Around 1180, Wermerichshausen also becomes the mother parish of Fridritt. Conrad von Trimberg exchanges the settlement, which belongs to the Würzburg monastery, for other property and sells it to the Maria Bildhausen monastery in 1217. Fridritt remained a monastery village until its dissolution in 1803. The monastery issues village ordinances and the farmers are liable to pay interest to the abbot, as well as paying taxes to Frauenroth Monastery and others. The early Gothic image of Our Lady of Fridritt dates from around 1360. There is much to suggest that an image of the Virgin Mary was already publicly venerated here in the Middle Ages. In 1550, four Marian feasts were celebrated. During the 30 Years' War, which inflicted severe wounds on the country, the pilgrimage died out. However, after the terrible years of war, more and more believers move to the small village. From the years 1656/1657, there are reports of apparitions and healings (22) as well as the daily arrival of pilgrims. The parish priest of Wermerichshausen and the Maria Bildhausen monastery, which permanently provided several clergymen to look after the pilgrims, argued over the use of the abundant offerings. From 1736 onwards, at least two Wermerichshausen chaplains were responsible for the now dwindling pilgrimage; monks from Bildhausen were no longer employed.
The small church is no longer sufficient for the still large crowds of pilgrims. Pastor Indau from Wermerichshausen rekindled the pilgrimage in 1734-1740 by building a large baroque church. Even today, the faithful continue to flock to the miraculous image, especially on the Fridritter Würzweih on August 15, when the church can barely hold the faithful.
After the dissolution of the Maria Bildhausen monastery in 1803, Fridritt, together with other communities, becomes part of the Münnerstadt district court, and in 1862 it becomes part of the Bad Kissingen district office. The community center and schoolhouse are built, a water pipe and electricity supply are installed. In 1963, an interest group is founded, which achieves its goal with the construction of the "Haus der Bäuerin" with town hall in 1967. The territorial reform leads to the incorporation of the village of Fridritt into the town of Münnerstadt on January 1, 1972 with the consent of the citizens. A home for all citizens is built in the old schoolhouse. The 18th century Weisbild is secured and a copy is erected in a newly built chapel on the edge of the village. Flood protection, water supply and sewage disposal cause major problems. The extensive work can only be tackled after 1990. This is completed with the successful redesign of the village center with the expansion of the local roads and the village square, the creation of green spaces and the designation of building areas. Today, the old pilgrimage site of Fridritt is a jewel among the districts of Münnerstadt.
