Frog mill

The exact age of the frog mill is not known. It probably already existed in the 15th century. The name Froschmühle (frog mill) is due to the owner in 1585, who was nicknamed “Frosch” (frog). The Frosch Mill burned down in 1847. However, it was completely rebuilt. Around 1890 - the owner at the time was granted a license - the Frosch Mill was converted into a guesthouse and restaurant, with the cutting mill remaining in operation until 1914. In 1957, the town of Eisenberg concluded a long-term lease agreement with the then owner to use the now dilapidated mill as a youth hostel. The number of beds rose from 18 to 88 within a year. In 1973, the town of Eisenberg bought the mill. In 1990, the hostel was assigned to the Thuringia Youth Hostel Association. The youth hostel is still run by the association today.
