The Fulda spring is located below the Wasserkuppe and is embedded in basalt stone. It is particularly popular with hikers and bikers for its clear, cold and fresh water as a free refreshment. 

The Fulda, Hesse's longest river at 218 km, rises at the source of the Fulda on the Wasserkuppe. The Wasserkuppe is the source of around 30 streams, the most famous of which is the Fulda. The source of the Fulda is embedded in basalt stone, where there is a plaque from the Rhönklub. Here is the following poem:

Take a rest here! The spring refreshes you
of the Fulda, which is clearly undulating
Mountain greeting carries along rustling,
it grows towards the Werra,
to the German stream and lowers the waves
into the sea as the Weser comes alive.

Between Kaufunger Wald and Reinhardswald, the Fulda ends in the three-river town of Hann.-Münden in Lower Saxony, becoming the Weser through this confluence, which in turn flows into the North Sea.
This poem is taught at school from an early age:

Where the Werra and Fulda kiss,
they have to atone for their name.
And here this kiss creates
German to the sea the Weser river.
