Goose thief fountain Pößneck

The fountain statue in Bahnhofstraße is the work of Robert Diez, who was born in Pößneck in 1844 as the son of the mayor Emil Diez. Robert Diez studied at the Dresden Academy of Art, where he later taught Ernst Barlach, among others, and created many beautiful sculptures for prestigious buildings, including the Semper Opera House and the Dresden Albertinum, as well as for public squares and parks. He achieved world fame with his bronze sculpture of the goose thief from 1878, which can still be seen today on the fountain in Dresden's historic old town. He donated a bronze cast of the fountain figure to his home town. The Thuringian Forest branch association donated the Pößneck fountain in 1936.
