Commemorative plaque at the German National Theater Weimar
Commemorative plaque at the German National Theater Weimar
Walter Gropius' contract of employment in the Court Marshal's Office not only provided for him as head of the Bauhaus school, but also as an "advisor on artistic issues within the state". His work as an advisor went hand in hand with the German National Assembly that convened in Weimar in 1919. In 1921, he was commissioned to design a commemorative plaque for the constitution adopted in the German National Theater in Weimar. It can be found on the left-hand side of the main entrance to the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar. In front of it, Goethe and Schiller are enthroned on their world-famous monument.
