Geiseltalsee
Geiseltalsee
After 330 years of mining, Germany's largest man-made lake was created here.
Cyclists, skaters and hikers use the popular 28-kilometer Geiseltal circular route for a tour with a stop at the vineyard.
There is a vineyard in the former open-cast lignite mine Geiseltal. With specially developed techniques, scientific helpers and, above all, the winemaker family's belief in the special location, vigorous vines thrive there today. The southern orientation of the slope, its 30-percent incline and the reflection of the lake are conditions that probably do not occur a second time in Germany. The vineyard was awarded a Future Prize in 2008 as the most innovative vineyard.
And all those who would rather not walk after a visit to the winegrower can hop on the Geiseltal Express, which makes its daily rounds around the lake. The sun-seekers, on the other hand, will find a spot on the waterways of the harbor facilities, and there are plenty of opportunities for water sports enthusiasts and swimmers to plunge into the waters.
You can get a lot of information at the Tourist Information Marina Mücheln, at the Information Center at the Marina Mücheln or at the Visitor Center Braunsbedra.
