German Nobel Prize winner Gerhart Hauptmann visited the spa town of Bad Liebenstein several times between 1924 and 1927. On the Aschenberg, he enjoyed the beautiful panoramic view of the foothills of the Thuringian Forest and the basalt peaks of the Thuringian Rhön as well as the Zechstein reef on the Altenstein. In 2001, his granddaughter Ingeborg Hauptmann and the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Gesellschaft e.V. visited this favorite place of the great German poet.
