Gerode is a district of the rural municipality of Sonnenstein in the Eichsfeld district of Thuringia and is a settlement that developed around the Gerode monastery. At the edge of the monastery grounds is the "Schlagbaumlinde", a 400-500 year old tree. There used to be a barrier there where wagons could be checked when entering and leaving the monastery grounds.
