Bell cage Ziegelroda
Bell cage Ziegelroda
The trained eye will notice that the church spire is missing from the silhouette of the village of Ziegelroda. In the course of the 30-year war Mechtildroda was abandoned. It was not until 1680 that a new settlement took place near the brickyard that had been built in the meantime. Hence the name of the village Ziegelroda, which is still used today. A chapel was built in 1814, which was erected without a steeple due to lack of money. As an alternative, a small half-timbered house was built on the forecourt where the bells were hung. The oldest bell dates back to 1848, in 1864 another one was added. The youngest was cast in 1902 in Laucha, where elements of a predecessor bell from 1712, such as the coat of arms of the von Witzleben family, were used.
