The Hirschberg gondola station was located on the Upper Franconian side of the Saale until 1945. After 1945, Hirschberg was located in the restricted area of the inner-German border. Today it is located in the adjoining old town of Hirschberg, which is situated in the Thuringian Slate Mountains Upper Saale Nature Park. Today, rowing boats can be hired from May to September to explore the Hag recreational area on the water.
