Church of God Creuzburg / Creuzburg district
The Gottesackerkirche is the oldest ecclesiastical building in Creuzburg. It was located outside the town wall. In the 11th century it was St. Mary's Church, in the 13th century the parish church of the old Creuzburg, place of worship of the Augustinian nunnery of St. Jacob, in the Middle Ages the Church of Our Lady. After the Reformation, it fell into disrepair and was completely burnt down in 1934 after being renovated in 1621. It was not rebuilt until 1710 by the Creuzburg architect Johann Georg Busch, albeit without the tower and chancel. It was the parish's place of worship until 1981. The cemetery surrounding the church was used until the end of the 19th century. Individual gravestones still remind us of this today. There is a special view of the town of Creuzburg with parts of the old town wall.
