Trench caponier I.
Trench caponier I.
The trench caponier, built in 1824/25, is a specially reinforced structure on the Petersberg fortress. It has enclosing walls one meter thick and a bomb-proof ceiling, which was built beam to beam with an earth covering. The trench caponier was used both to store mobile guns and to defend the main trench. It was extensively renovated between 1995 and 2000 and more recent modifications were removed.
