Großeutersdorf is a small community approx. 20 km south of Jena on the left bank of the Saale in a scenic location. First mentioned in a document in 900 AD, the settlement of the Großeutersdorfer Flur is much older. Rich archaeological finds from the Stone Age, Bronze Age and the Germanic settlement epoch bear witness to the popularity and advantages of the middle Saale valley. As an area of Germany with a particularly favorable climate, it attracts visitors with a mild spring, a hot summer, a long and warm autumn and a mild winter.

In the municipality of Großeutersdorf there are several buildings and facilities of cultural and historical value, e.g. the pedestrianSteel cable suspension bridge across the Saale, the Church of St. Georgewhich was first mentioned in documents in the 12th century, is a Rectory with stables from the beginning of the 18th century and a former Mill with outbuildings.

Today, Großeutersdorf is home to a Documentation center on the armaments site at Walpersberg. The 311 m high mountain was hollowed out by the Kahla porcelain industry for the extraction of raw materials from 1884 at the latest. Towards the end of the Second World War, this cave system was expanded by the National Socialist armaments industry using foreign and forced labor to create the Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring GmbH (REIMAHG) underground aircraft factory. The ruins of the factory can still be found above the town today and can be visited as part of historical tours.

A Memorial plaque on the foundation of the kitchen building of the former Camp 2 of the aircraft factory commemorates the 27 forced laborers from Poland who were buried in Großeutersdorfer Forst in the direction of Dienstädt. A memorial placed in 1974 Memorial stone in the forest Direction Orlamünde commemorates the workers of Camp 3 who perished.
