Großkochberg
Großkochberg
Embedded in the area natural monuments "Blassenberg" in the north and the "Raubschlosswand" in the south lies the municipality Großkochberg in an idyllic basin. The village is dominated by Kochberg Castle, the former country residence of Charlotte von Stein. A special treasure is the unique lovers' theater, part of the castle ensemble, which Charlotte von Stein's eldest son Carl had built around 1800. Today, with its 75 seats, it is part of the European Route of Historic Theaters.
But also worth seeing is the village itself with its numerous half-timbered buildings and the church with a carved altar from the 15th century. The surroundings of Großkochberg are beautiful. A hike to the "Hummelsberg" is always worthwhile and offers a unique panoramic view of the Thuringian mountains.
