Suspension rope bridge Hohe Schrecke
Suspension rope bridge Hohe Schrecke
180 meters long, 85 centimeters narrow and 25 meters above the valley: the suspension rope bridge over the Bärental is the new attraction in the Hohe Schrecke.
Deliberately constructed simply from steel and wood, the bridge is also a treetop path and viewpoint. It doesn't break any records, but instead blends gently into the surrounding nature. The bridge can only be reached on foot: The hiking trails from Braunsroda or Reinsdorf, each about 3 km long, lead through orchards, hollow paths and old beech forests. And if you cross the swaying planks of the bridge, you can hike through the unspoilt, wild deciduous forests of the Hohe Schrecke on the "Small Circular Trail". Catering and sanitary facilities are only available at the hiking parking lot.
Hikers' parking lot: The best hiking access point to the bridge is the hiking parking lot in Braunsroda. This can be reached directly via "Bismarck-Allee" by turning right before entering Braunsroda. This prevents traffic from passing through the entire village. We ask all visitors to use the hiking parking lot and not to park in the village center! Please use the parking ticket machine and contribute to the maintenance of the suspension rope bridge! There is a special arrangement for the farmers' markets: parking in Braunsroda is then free of charge. There is also a toilet near the parking lot.
Circular hiking trails: The recommended circular hiking trail to the suspension rope bridge is the "Enzian Wiesenweg", starting at the Braunsroda hiking parking lot. It takes you on a 7 km circular route through orchards and sparse deciduous forests to the suspension rope bridge and back through the forest. It takes about 2 hours at a relaxed pace.
If you continue on the other side of the suspension rope bridge, you can complete the loop via the "Kleine Hohe Schrecke Rundweg". The small circular trail stretches over 13 km and leads through some of the popular wilderness areas of the Hohe Schrecke.
Is there an entrance fee for the bridge? The bridge itself does not charge admission. It is freely accessible and open all year round. A parking fee of €3 to €5 per car is charged at the trail parking lot to help fund the maintenance of the suspension rope bridge. On certain dates throughout the year, the nature and landscape guides offer hikes that cost between €6 and €12 per person, depending on the specialty and topic.
