Harztor OT Niedersachswerfen
Harztor OT Niedersachswerfen
The Niedersachswerfen district of the municipality of Harztor is located at the southern foothills of the Harz Mountains, right next to the town of Nordhausen. Probably the most striking elevations in the village in the southern Harz nature park are the Kohnstein, where anhydrite rock was mined for decades, and the Mühlberg. The St. Johannis-Pauli church with its churchyard marks the center of the village. Niedersachswerfen is connected to the Harz narrow-gauge railroad network, a historic steam locomotive runs daily from the village up to Brocken and the HSB railcars are also a convenient way to explore the southern Harz. In summer, the outdoor pool in Niedersachswerfen is a popular destination. Once a year, running enthusiasts flock to Niedersachswerfen for the Harztorlauf. Those who don't like it quite so fast can discover the surrounding area on various hiking trails or by bike on the Harz circular route towards Ilfeld or Neustadt/Harz.
