Altenburg's market square is one of the most valuable testimonies to the history of urban development in Thuringia. With a total area of 7850 square meters and a length of 230 meters, it bears witness to Altenburg's former position in the Central German settlement area and its function as a crossroads for important trade routes. The historical appearance of the market square with its views of the Brüderkirche and the Rote Spitzen, the variously decorated façades of the town houses and the imposing Renaissance building of the town hall must be preserved for future generations and made a new experience.
