Heilingen

(226 m above sea level), overlooked to the north by the steep slopes of the Ritschenberg and the Mordberg, is the second largest village in Hexengrund with 198 inhabitants and was first mentioned in a document in 876 as "Helidingi". The meaning of the village name has never been satisfactorily clarified. Two interpretations prevail. One is that the name originated from an old cult and court site dedicated to the Germanic goddess Hel, and the other is that it was derived from "the people of a Helid (hero)". It is certain that the Heilinger Flur was inhabited long before it was first mentioned in a document in 876. This is evidenced by a large number of archaeological finds from the Neolithic period (around 4000 - 1700 BCE) and the Hallstatt period (1st millennium BCE).

Thing-SteinThe village is rich in witnesses of times gone by. Worth seeing are the old oath and court site with the Thingstein and lime tree, a fortified church, a former schnapps distillery from the beginning of the 16th century and historic half-timbered houses.

The village square by the church, which has been redesigned in recent years as part of the village renewal project, is particularly attractive. Guest rooms and a restaurant with a hall invite you to relax. Club life is cultivated in the village. The men's choir "Concordia" is known far beyond the borders of Thuringia. The Heilingen-Röbschütz local history association is just as active and organizes the annual parade.
