The Heinrich Heine Park on the banks of the Saale forms Rudolstadt's green lung, so to speak, between the old town and the Cumbach district.
The park covers an area of almost 3 hectares and with its many paths and benches invites you to take a walk and rest.
The tree population includes mainly native tree species, such as willows, beeches, chestnuts, lime trees, birches, acacias, oaks, elms and others.
The Heine Park borders the Saale River, several sports fields, the outdoor swimming pool, the "Große Wiese" allotment garden area, the Cumbach residential area, the "Bleichwiese" fairground, and the two pedestrian bridges "Elisabethbrücke" and "Alte Stadtbrücke".
On the southern edge of the park are the Thuringian farmhouses, the first open-air museum founded in Germany in 1914. Here, 3 original farmhouses were rebuilt, furnished with historical objects from the once typical rural life and developed as a museum.
A monument of the Rudolstadt Seniors' Convention (a student association) has also been located in Heine Park since 1927.
