The building of the former "Großherzoglich Sächsische Kunstgewerbeschule" was erected in 1905 and 1906 by Henry van de Velde as an angular building with a uniform architectural design and was completely reconstructed in 2009. Today it houses the dean's office as well as teaching and work rooms for the Faculty of Art and Design. Inside the School of Arts and Crafts, which was designed as a workshop building, the wide spiral staircase in the central stairwell and the reconstructed murals by Oskar Schlemmer, which were created for the Bauhaus exhibition in 1923, are particularly worth seeing. The building is one of the Bauhaus sites in Weimar and Dessau, which were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1996.
