Herder Fountain Weimar
Herder Fountain Weimar
In place of the older Dietrich Fountain on what was then Töpfenmarkt, Weimar's second cast-iron fountain was designed by master builder Clemens Wenzeslaus Coudray in 1830 and erected in 1832. The fountain consists of an octagonal fountain column with a gargoyle in the shape of a devil's grimace, a trident and key on the side and a crowning vase with acanthus leaves and dolphins. The base plate and the dog trough are made of travertine. The appearance is very similar to the Goethe Fountain on the Frauenplan.
