Herderplatz Weimar
Herderplatz Weimar
The soundscape at Herderplatz is dominated by the clatter of horses' hooves on historic pavement and the ringing of church bells. There are no less than three buildings on Weimar's oldest square that are now UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the City Church of St. Peter and Paul, the Herderhaus and the Old Grammar School. The square's most prominent resident was Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, who resided in the neighboring "Sächsischer Hof" inn for a year. Johann Gottfried Herder, who gave the square its name, worked at the town church for a total of 27 years and lived with his family in the associated official residence.
