The Hamma district of the rural municipality of Heringen/Helme lies in a quiet and idyllic location in the Goldene Aue, on the edge of the Kyffhäuser Nature Park. The village has been documented since 1143 and originally belonged to the county of Hohenstein, but like other villages, it was given away or bartered away several times among the counts. The Sankt Trinitatis church and the listed former mill, which now houses a café and vacation apartments, are among the oldest buildings in the small village. Hikers can set off directly into nature from Hamma - even without shoes on the barefoot trail of the Kyffhäuser Nature Park along the Hamma stream.
