Her(r)bergskirche Michaeliskirche

Situated high up on the ridge of the Thuringian Forest, St. Michael's Church promises a immersive experience of space.

Spending the night in St. Michael's Church in Neustadt is a cocoon experience: when you lie in the large double bed and draw the curtain, the church interior shrinks into a small cave full of security. And conversely, an overnight stay here can also be an experience of space: when the curtain remains open and the morning begins with the sun's rays falling through the stained glass windows of the chancel, bathing the nave in bright colors and involving the guests in a play of light and space. The artist Medardus Höbelt created them in 1989. They depict the Archangel Michael's battle with evil, a reminder of peace. The church itself is a neo-Romanesque gem, built in the 1850s directly on the Rennsteig. It is surrounded by a small garden, and the vicarage with the kitchen for overnight guests is right next door. Sanitary facilities are located in the church itself. The guests of the parish are welcomed by am representativeof the friendly HER(R)BERGSTEAMS. Your hosts will also be happy to show you around and advise you on excursions or upcoming stages of the Rennsteige. Those arriving later in the day should not forget to plan food for the evening or pre-order a table at one of the local restaurants. For fresh baked goods in the morning, there is a supermarket just opposite the Rennsteig.
