The first documented mention of the village dates back to 9 December 1152. Heukewalde has always been characterized by agriculture and forestry. A country inn with a guesthouse and the social and cultural center of the community with the large citizens' hall, the leisure bowling alley, the newly built fire station, the club room and the municipal office in the immediate vicinity are located in the center of the village.
