The Historical-Technical Museum shows inventions and well-known products from 200 years of industrial development of the city. The focus is on Nicolaus von Dreyse, the inventor of the firing needle rifle, and the success story of the Robotron office machine factory, which made Sömmerda the "computer capital of the GDR". Computers such as the PC 1715, the first dot matrix printer of the GDR, typewriters and calculating machines, but also well-known GDR consumer products such as Robotron radio sets and, of course, the revolutionary firing pin rifle are presented.

Behind the historic Dreyse House, which houses the museum as well as the city and district library, a rose garden in Biedermeier style with around 140 historic and English roses invites visitors to linger.
