Historic corkscrew workshop
Historic corkscrew workshop
The corkscrew locksmith Johann Friedrich Recknagel from Steinbach-Hallenberg could certainly never have imagined when he built his workshop around 1900 that it would be driving through his home town 100 years later to reach its new location at the museum. This spectacle, which was watched by thousands of onlookers, had become necessary in order to preserve the workshop, which is now a listed building, for posterity. It is the only one of its kind in the world and therefore something very special. In 9 rooms, visitors can follow the entire production process of a corkscrew, from forging the threads and hoops to assembling the individual parts and selling them. The panels and display cases also tell of the inventive spirit of the corkscrew makers, who have registered over 130 patents and utility models.
A visit to the historic corkscrew workshop is part of a visit to the Metal Crafts Museum. Show forging demonstrations also take place here regularly.
