Historical cemetery Weimar
The cemetery in front of the Frauentor was consecrated in 1818 after the closure of the Jakobskirchhof. Among other things, it contains the Goethe and Schiller crypt, which was once completed in 1827 as a princely crypt. Directly adjacent is the Russian Orthodox Chapel, which originally served as a burial place for Maria Paulowna. Originally intended as a cemetery chapel, the building in the north-east of the cemetery was converted into a memorial hall for the fallen Weimar soldiers of the First World War in 1927. Most of the graves are closely linked to the cultural and intellectual life of Weimar.
