Farm store no. 5
Farm store no. 5
An old German clay-walled baking oven, built from old fireclay bricks, is the centerpiece of the small farm store no. 5 in Kleinromstedt, the home of Horst-Ingolf Herrnleben. The farm store is located in the four-sided courtyard of the former restaurant "Zum deutschen Kaiser" (until 1918). The old stable building has been renovated and is now the home of the farm store.
Every two weeks, bread is baked there in the romanticized way - away from baking, leavening and preserving agents, industrial baking lines and ready-made mixes. In addition to freshly baked mixed rye bread, varieties with caraway seeds, walnuts, garlic or roasted onions are also produced. The original "soldier's bread" - Kommisbrot - is also offered here, with loaves placed so close together in the oven that a box-like shape is created, with a crust only forming at the top.
In addition to bread, delicious mustards, fruity spreads, jellies, juices, liqueurs and pasta are also made by hand in the production kitchen - using all kinds of ingredients such as garlic, wild garlic, porcini mushrooms and herbs, but without eggs.
Parties can also be held in the cozy farm store. Up to 30 people (or more in the warmer months) can make themselves comfortable in the old four-sided courtyard, bake pizza together and take part in the production and tasting of mustard.
