Court marshal's office in Altenstein Castle Park
Court marshal's office in Altenstein Castle Park
This used to be the seat of the castle's economic administrator, the court marshal. The Court Marshal's Office was built between 1803 and 1809 as a counterpart to the palace. It is a simple building with three storeys and a mansard roof. There is a passageway in the middle, flanked on either side by Doric columns. The building thus forms the entrance to the Pleasure Ground or inner park. Round buildings adjoin it on both sides. A so-called cavalier's house forms the end at each end. The round buildings on either side housed the stables with the coach houses as well as apartments, stables and ancillary rooms for the servants. From 1825 to 1890, there was an inn in the northern Kavaliershaus. The court gardeners, who had previously lived in the southern Kavaliershaus, then moved in.
