Hohenbergen is a district of the town and rural community of Nottertal-Heilinger Höhen in the Unstrut-Hainich district of Thuringia. Hohenberga was first mentioned in a document in 1359. The settlement belonged to the lords of Körner. After the village was completely destroyed by war, it was transferred to the Volkenroda Monastery and rebuilt by the latter. However, history has left its mark on the village many times over. Hohenbergen was devastated during the Peasants' War and was rebuilt in the 14th century.

The origin of the village's name can be found in the Thuringian legends. After the village was destroyed, the inhabitants looked for a new place to settle. They finally found it between two mountains and called this new place Hohenbergen. Houses with outbuildings and gardens are grouped along the village street. The village is divided along its length by a stream that flows through the entire village.

Hohenbergen is located in a scenic area at an altitude of 278 m above sea level at the foot of the Sacred Heights mountain rangein the northwest of the Thuringian Basin.
