Husenkirche Bad Salzungen
Husenkirche Bad Salzungen
The Husenkirche in Bad Salzungen is not only the oldest building in the town, but also the oldest church building in the entire Werra Valley.
Over the centuries it was changed and rebuilt several times. The preserved walls date back to 1161. Hans and Margarethe Luder, the parents of Martin Luther, were married in the Husenkirche. During excavations in the nave, remains of a Bronze Age settlement were found under the foundation.
Shortly before the end of the 2nd World War, the Husenkirche was severely damaged. Since then, the monument ekes out a shadowy existence and is in danger of falling into disrepair.
The Förderverein Husenkirche e.V. has set itself the task of awakening the culturally and historically valuable building from its slumber and preserving it for future generations. The cultural heritage of the Husenkirche should have the function of informing about the history of society by means of tangible and sensually perceptible historical evidence and to convey a vivid picture of the architecture and way of life of past times.
Anyone who would like to contribute is welcome to do so.
