Information center "Haus auf der Grenze" - Point Alpha Memorial
The information center "House on the border" is part of the Point Alpha memorial, which focuses on the division of Germany. The fall of the Wall not only offered unique opportunities for people, but also for nature.
The upper floor of the "Haus auf der Grenze" has been home to an exhibition of the UNESCO Rhön Biosphere Reserve since 2014.
The main focus of the presentation is the Green Belt. The Green Belt is a BUND initiative to create a green belt along the 1400 km long former German-German border.
Interactive maps and infographics explain the background to the initiative and show the growth of the Green Belt over the past 25 years. Even before the Wall came down, these zones had already developed into a refuge for endangered animal and plant species.
Sculptures of the animals and plants native to the Green Belt, such as the wildcat, black stork and silver thistle, invite visitors to touch and explore.
A group of junior rangers will present their own exhibits to show their view of nature in the Green Belt and the Rhön Biosphere Reserve.
The memorial is located on the premium hiking trails Extra tour "Point Alpha Trail" and "Rasdorf„.
