Art nouveau building at Steinweg 33
Art nouveau building at Steinweg 33
One of the most interesting and valuable examples of Art Nouveau is the remarkable building at Steinweg 33. The building is actually a conventional gabled house with a half-timbered bay. However, the Art Nouveau elements on the gable outline and the window frames give the house its special character.
The story:
The house was built in 1902 in the Art Nouveau style. It has a half-timbered bay window with colored windows and a "beehive" under the bay window (at the corner of the house). From 1930 to 2017, the building housed the Beyreiß leather goods store. From the very beginning, the store included a workshop. All kinds of suitcases and satchels were made there, but above all repairs were carried out.
"Koffer-Beyreiß" is one of the few private dealers in Mühlhausen that has always remained in private ownership.
