If you leave Arnstadt in a south-westerly direction from the Liebfrauenkirche church and follow the nature trail marked with gray-green oak leaves, you will reach a steeply sloping shell limestone rock, the so-called "Jungfernsprung", after about three quarters of an hour through the famous Jonastal valley.

This name is based on a legend according to which a wild knight pursued a girl on horseback and drove her to the edge of a precipice. In his desperation, the girl jumped down the cliff, which did not stop the knight from following her. In his frenzy, he followed her, but crashed on the stony riverbed of the Wild White, which had made its way here. The girl, however, remained untouched: her wide robe had allowed her to glide gently into the valley. Since this event, this wall in the Jonastal has been called "Jungfernsprung".
