The building was constructed in 1715 as a university ballroom. Napoleon I and the Russian Tsar Alexander I met here on the occasion of the Congress of Princes in 1808. A number of famous artists such as Niccolo Paganini and Franz Liszt gave concerts in this building. And in the presence of the poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, the prose version of Friedrich Schiller's „Don Carlos“ was premiered in the Kaisersaal. Today, the Kaisersaal is a congress and conference center.
