Barracks B (Thuringian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments and Archaeology)
Barracks B (Thuringian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments and Archaeology)
The current administrative building of the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments and Archaeology was originally built in 1686 as a granary, known as the "neues Schütthaus". After 1700, it was converted into barracks and used for military purposes until the 20th century. In 1821, the building, of which only the middle section was initially constructed, was given its side wings and a new staircase at the rear. From 1920 it was used as a residential building and finally converted into an administrative building in 1992/93.
