The church's predecessor was already in a very poor condition in 1628, so the construction of the current church was completed in 1695. The tower with its pointed roof, typical of the Eichsfeld region, was added after the church was completed. The church was consecrated in 1735. The high altar, which was restored and redesigned in the 20th century, comes from the former Cistercian nunnery in Worbis. The Marian altar from 1930 shows the miraculous image of Mary with her child, which is venerated every year during the Marian pilgrimage.
