Catholic town parish church St. Georg Bischofsheim i.d.Rhön
On the site of the present church there used to be a Romanesque church with a cemetery and a fortified tower. In 1607, the prince-bishop built the Julius Echter the foundation stone for the new church was laid, which is still witnessed by the memorial plaque on the southern outer wall, 1610 was able to Catholic parish church of St. George be inaugurated.
The church - because of its considerable size in the vernacular also Rhöndom is a three-aisled basilica with a very high central nave and a single-nave choir. Striking are the high, very narrow two-part windows with gothic Tracery. The facade has post gothic Features on. The pulpit and the baptismal font date back to the construction period of the church.
1965/66 the church was extends and the staircase house of the Romanesque fortified tower integrated. 2018 - probably until the year 2019 inside - the church is comprehensively renovated.
