Vollersroda church
Vollersroda church
The rectangular church in the small village of Vollersroda is relatively large and imposing. It has a very special aura. Lyonel Feininger also thought so when he explored the area around Weimar with his sketchpad. He captured the church in two paintings and an energetic woodcut. The church is slightly elevated above the Ilmbogen with a view of the Weimar countryside.
A small Gothic sacrament niche bears witness to the previous building from the Middle Ages. The interior is painted in a gloomy 19th century style. A baptismal font and a statue of a saint are older than the present church. The bronze bells date back to 1877.
