The village (195 m above sea level, 573 inhabitants) is situated at the entrance of the Haselbach into the Saale floodplain, directly in front of the gates of Rudolstadt. It was first mentioned in a document in 1305 as Hasela. The oldest part of the village church is the tower, which originally stood alone and was subsequently incorporated into the church. The lower part reminds of a waiting tower and dates back to the 14th century. The valuable carved altar is attributed to the "Meckfeld Master". Also noteworthy is a stone tablet next to the southern door, which shows the so-called "Kirchhasler Hammermännchen".

Beautiful half-timbered houses characterize the village on both sides of the Haselbach. The village community center at the end of the village in the direction of Oberhasel houses the day care center "Waldgeister", a large community hall and club rooms. Several restaurants, also with overnight accommodations, invite you to stay. South of the village a new residential area was built. The gap to the old residential town of Rudolstadt has been closed for several years by the 34 ha large commercial area.

The association "Hasela" e.V. is responsible for the sociability in the village.
