Kleinkochberg
Kleinkochberg
Kleinkochberg (418 m above sea level, 57 inhabitants), situated at the foot of the steeply rising shell limestone slopes of the Hummelsberg (515 m above sea level), is the highest-lying district of the municipality of Uhlstädt-Kirchhasel. The village was first documented in 1378 as "Kocheberg minor".
In 1864, James Patrick von Parry, a Goethe admirer and then owner of Kuhfraß Manor and Hirschhügel Castle, had a four-story observation tower built on Hummelsberg in memory of his late wife Luise, a granddaughter of Charlotte von Stein. Even today, the tower is a popular destination for excursions. From here, the view stretches far across the Saale Valley and the Saale-Ilm Plateau to the mountain ranges of the Thuringian Forest and the Ettersberg near Weimar.
Every year in June, the Freundeskreis Luisenturm e.V. organizes the "Festival of 1000 Lights" on the grounds of the Luisenturm.
Kleinkochberg has an indoor riding arena and accommodation. Carriage rides are also offered to guests.
