Mildenfurth Monastery
Mildenfurth Monastery
Mildenfurth Castle near Weida is a curiosity among Thuringia's architectural monuments. It was originally founded in 1139 by Henry II, Bailiff of Weida, as a Premonstratensian monastery. However, in the 16th century, the monastery's three-aisled basilica was transformed into a Renaissance castle. Today, works by the famous sculptor Volkmar Kühn are exhibited in the monastery grounds. If you are coming from the direction of Wünschendorf, you can also cross a historic wooden bridge on your way to the castle.
The monastery can currently only be visited from the outside!
